In the heavy rains on the small street
Amongst the darkness and scorching heat
A child is born, a beautiful little face
A strong heart has just begun to race
In an unknown world she just stepped
Smiles around as she first wept
This is the world that you have come in
This is the place you’re gonna stay
Destiny just unfurled this way
Close your eyes, pray
Its gonna be okay
Across the street in blistering cold
She found her place, or so she’s told
Her eyes shimmer like a summer day
Ten years of life have come her way
Last night she was just a stray waif
Today, big man in the house keeps her safe
This is the world that you have come in
This is the place you’re gonna stay
Destiny just unfurled this way
Close your eyes, pray
Its gonna be okay
A few more years of life she has seen
Don’t remember how many, neither does she
No longer a summer day
Her eyes now home to nasty chafe
Playing daily is she the wife
To the power of a gun, blade or knife
This is the world that you have come in
This is the place you’re gonna stay
Destiny just unfurled this way
Close your eyes, pray
Its gonna be okay
Her endurance in this torment is what pays
No pain in the body, just in heart it stays
On the bed of nails, there she lay
As scavengers bite off their favorite prey
The rest of her life, she bears this thorn
While in the darkness of the streets, another child is born
This is the world that you have come in
This is the place you’re gonna stay
Destiny just unfurled this way
Close your eyes, pray
This world is not okay
The exploitation of children is a heinous crime, thank you for speaking out.
ReplyDeleteA good movement and beauty to this sad poem.
ReplyDelete@chromapoesy.com A heinous one, and very common in India and southeast asia. Don't know why I wrote it, just began to flow.
